Coaching History: Last Three Years

Head Coach: Nick Sirianni (PHI ’22-24)
Offensive Coordinator: Kevin Patullo (PHI ’22-24)
2024 Record: 14-3

Team Summary

The Eagles run the majority of their plays in “11” personnel with 3 WRs and a TE accompanying Saquon Barkley on the field. They split their running plays pretty evenly between “11” and “12” personnel, they but primarily pass out of “11” with the extra WR on the field. While this should lead to opportunities for their WR3, the dominant pair of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith soak up a ton of targets, leaving little for the remaining WRs that rotate in. Similarly, because there aren’t as many passing plays in “12” personnel, only the starting TE receives a fantasy relevant workload.

The Eagles run a zone-heavy rushing scheme, with some counters mixed in as well. This let’s their RBs patiently work through the play letting the talented offensive line go to work creating rushing lanes and forcing defenses to play fundamentally sound up front. This run-focused attack often leads to 3rd- or 4th Down & Short situations, which provides opportunities to unleash the “Tush Push” – a QB sneak with Jalen Hurts forcing his way forward behind the offensive line and the RB giving whatever extra power can be mustered by pushing from behind to move the pile forward.

The running game was so successful in 2024, that the Eagles had a laughably low pass rate. They led so frequently that in the 2nd halves of games, they had a -8.3% PROE, which, across full games, would have been 3rd-lowest since 2021 (bested only by the 2022 Bears, with Justin Fields throwing to leading receiver… Cole Kmet; and the 2022 Falcons who split time between Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder at QB). This type of dominance is unlikely to happen again, so there should be some regression towards the passing game in 2025.

2024 Positional Market Share

There are really only two options in the Philadelphia running game. The starting RB and the starting QB. Saquon Barkley handles as much as he can when games are competitive. In short-yardage situations, Philadelphia often turns to the “Tush Push” with Jalen Hurts to pick up the few feet necessary.

The Eagles WRs have a 1A/1B situation, with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Each receive north of 20% of team targets. However, behind those two, other WRs don’t earn much in the way of targets. This leaves plenty of room for their TE to get involved as the 3rd receiver. Dallas Goedert only accrued a 12.4% target share, but this was missing 7 games and being hurt early in an 8th.

Jalen Hurts

In a down season, Jalen Hurts struggled his way to a… QB8 finish. That comes playing in only 15 games and with an hilariously low pass rate. He has finished as a Top10 QB each of the last 4 years. He has a great offensive line, elite pass catching options, and the “Tush Push”. Hurts doesn’t usually get included with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson (and now Jayden Daniels), but he should. Of the top tier QBs, Hurts is the best value of the bunch with an ADP of QB4, 40th overall.

Saquon Barkley

That was the Saquon Barkley everyone has longed for since he entered the league. He broke off big gains routinely, and gained 835 yards on carries that went for 15+ yards. As exciting as it was to watch, these are not the type of performances that repeat. Saquon is still an elite talent, and he still has a quality offensive environment. Just understand that you’re more likely to get 1,400 total yards than 1,800.

A.J. Brown

Brown, along with the rest of the Philadelphia passing offense, had a down year statistically. There was nothing wrong with his play, though. He was still a dominating, big-bodied WR that is a matchup nightmare for CBs. The only thing holding him back was volume, because Philadelphia didn’t need to throw often. You can drop him towards the bottom of the WR1s if you want, but he will still be one of the best WRs in the league.

DeVonta Smith

DeVonta Smith plays with a different style than A.J. Brown. While Brown uses his hulking frame and athleticism to over-power, out-jump, and run past defenders; Smith uses neater technique to work himself open through his routes. With coverage usually more focused on A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith frequently takes advantage of mismatches and exploits his opportunities.

Dallas Goedert

Goedert is really a forgotten man in this offense. With the QB4, RB1, and WRs 10 and 24 by ADP, you can kind of understand why people would forget. Goedert is an extremely solid TE who has consistently finished as a fringe TE1 during healthy seasons. He lacks the upside of some of the other options, as he is overshadowed by his offensive teammates. However, with how concentrated the Philadelphia passing attack has become, he gets more opportunities than most realize.
