It’s Week 6 in the NFL, nasty boy season is in full effect, and I’m back to help us think through the best ways to save some dough in the DraftKings Sunday slate. Let’s dive into some players at the $5,000 salary or less to target to supplement the stars and try and win some cold hard cash!
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler
New Orleans Saints • QB • #2
Spencer Rattler made this DraftKings article for the second straight week. While he’s not having a prolific season from a touchdown perspective, he is giving you very usable weeks from a yardage perspective, and he’s not turning the ball over like he did last season. If Rattler can get a multi-TD game, you’re going to be happy with the amount of points he can give you compared to the amount of salary you can save at only $4700.
Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel
Cleveland Browns • QB • #8
This is not a fun play by any means. Gabriel is in only his second career start, in a gross divisional matchup, on the road. However, the Steelers’ defense is not as prolific as in years’ past, and the Browns do have a solid array of weapons for Gabriel to target. Gabriel is also a sneakily efficient runner around the red zone, though he hasn’t had the chance to display that yet at the NFL level. If Dillon can build on his first start and continue making good decisions, he could easily give you a 2-3 touchdown game with his rushing upside and the talent that surrounds him on offense.
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal
Los Angeles Chargers • RB • #30
I’m going to be honest here, this is a pure coinflip between who will be more valuable in the Chargers’ backfield (if anyone). I have very little conviction between Vidal and Hassan Haskins, and they are both the same price of exactly $5000 on DraftKings. The only reason I’m going for Vidal here is that he is more athletic than Haskins, and is a better pass-catcher (on paper at least) compared to Haskins. Big plays and receptions are the most valuable point-scoring mechanism on DraftKings, and I’d rather lean into that upside than on Haskins most likely being the goal-line back.
Kendre Miller
Kendre Miller
New Orleans Saints • RB • #5
Kendre Miller is also back in this DraftKings value article for a second straight week. Alvin Kamara has been limited in practice all week with an ankle injury, and while it does seem like Kamara is trending towards playing, he is still an older veteran on a losing team that is actively looking to trade away some of their veteran players before the trade deadline. I don’t think Kamara will be a full scratch (though Miller is a must-play if that does happen), but I do think that Kendre will see an expanded role to try and preserve Kamara’s health. I like the upside shot here on Miller getting around 15 touches and possible TD upside.
Tre Tucker
Tre Tucker
Las Vegas Raiders • WR • #1
The Raiders as a team have been a frustrating fantasy experience so far this season. However, the one relatively consistent receiver so far has actually been Tre Tucker, who has already given us a 40+ point game so far on DraftKings. Geno Smith has not looked good whatsoever, but the Raiders are insistent on utilizing Tucker every single week. Most importantly, they face an abysmal defense in the Tennessee Titans this week, which could be a bit of a get-right game for Vegas.
Rashid Shaheed
Rashid Shaheed
New Orleans Saints • WR • #22
So far this season, the New England Patriots have surrendered the most receptions of over 20 yards in the NFL, and Christian Gonzalez didn’t really help the team in his return last week in that department. He will, however, most likely shadow Chris Olave in this game, leaving Rashid Shaheed to face the worst secondary against the deep pass in football. The path to success pretty much writes itself here, and at $4600, Shaheed is one of the more interesting value plays on the entire slate in my opinion.
Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond
Cleveland Browns • WR • #16
While it hasn’t resulted in a lot of fantasy points yet, Isaiah Bond has quietly seen 13 targets over the past 2 weeks, though they only resulted in 5 receptions. However, if Dillon Gabriel and Bond can get on the same page and connect on more targets this week, we have the potential of a 6-7 target receiver against a mediocre passing defense for only $3700. Bond still has some deep pass potential as well with his speed (though not faster than Xavier Worthy sadly), and there is certainly a conceivable path to Bond giving you 15+ points if he connects for a long bomb from Gabriel.
Parker Washington
Parker Washington
Jacksonville Jaguars • WR • #11
This is definitely potentially a too big-brain play, but just hear me out folks. The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars just completed a trade this week where they swapped starting Cornerbacks. With that, the Jaguars will effectively be down a starter this week as their new acquisition gets integrated into the gameplan.
I think there’s a solid chance that Travis Hunter plays more CB this week than we in the fantasy community would like. If that happens, Parker Washington may receiver almost all of the slot receiver work, a position that is very valuable in a Liam Coen offense. It’s admittedly a thin play, but it will certainly be unique in DraftKings contests if it does happen to pay off.
Michael Mayer
Michael Mayer
Las Vegas Raiders • TE • #87
Brock Bowers is unfortunately out once again in Week 6, and that leaves only Michael Mayer as the starting TE for the Las Vegas Raiders. While Mayer certainly isn’t Bowers, he is talented in his own right as a former 2nd round pick. They are facing the Titans this week, and if they use Mayer at even only half the rate they used Bowers, Mayer has a solid floor with good upside at the TE position, especially at $3100.
Taysom Hill
Taysom Hill
New Orleans Saints • TE • #7
I still can’t even believe that Taysom is already playing again after tearing his ACL late last year. But he is, and while he was certainly on a pitch count last week, the Saints made certain to get him the ball on nearly every snap he played. While I doubt that type of usage continues, Hill is still the type of player who can break a slate even on limited touches. And with Alvin Kamara likely limited in this game, there’s certainly a solid possibility that Hill sees multiple red zone opportunities in this game as well.
