Accept or Decline: Reviewing Reddit Trade Offers

We have all been here before: your notification goes off for your phone, and you have a new trade proposal on the Sleeper App. You may open it and question it first. The second thing you most likely do is send it to a few friends who play Fantasy Football and ask for their opinion. Others log back into their Reddit account and post screenshots of the trade in the Fantasy Football and Dynasty forums to get many, many others’ opinions.

Well, I’m here to review a few trades posted on Reddit every week leading up to the start of the NFL Season. Some of these trades we may have very little information on the league they play in or the settings for that league. It’s all good and fun, and we all have different opinions on whether we would accept or decline a trade.

1.02 vs. DK Metcalf and the 1.05

KeepTradeCut Calculator: Pick 1.02 (7,762) | DK Metcalf & 1.05 (10,416)

First up is a Superflex 12-team dynasty league, and this trade is all about acquiring the 1.02 in this year’s rookie draft or keeping DK Metcalf and the 1.05. We have no clue what either roster looks like, but we have two very interesting rookie draft picks involved.

We will start with the 1.02 receiving side. We know Ashton Jeanty, Tetairoa McMillan, Omarion Hampton, and even Travis Hunter could be among the top five picks made. You can most likely turn your team around quickly with Ashton Jeanty, as he will be a Christian McCaffrey or Derrick Henry-type running back. A non-stop work-horse. I would love to get Ashton Jeanty at 1.02, but only if that is possible. If the league-mate with 1.01 is dead at the running back position, Jeanty is most likely gone before the 1.02.

Travis Hunter is an interesting player for fantasy football purposes. He has stated that he would quit football if he couldn’t play both positions. However, teams aren’t telling him he can’t. Depending on your league settings, Hunter should be able to earn you double the points, playing both sides of the ball. If you’re weak at the wide receiver position (which this user may not be with DK Metcalf), you can snag the Colorado Swiss-Army knife and secure a solid weapon.

Moving to the opposite side of the trade, you have DK Metcalf and the 1.05 draft pick. Metcalf shockingly asked for a trade from the Seattle Seahawks once it became apparent that Geno Smith would be gone. He now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, alongside George Pickens and with Mason Rudolph (currently QB1) under center. The pairing of Metcalf and Pickens seems like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, as both have short fuses. Not the ideal situation for any fantasy football manager.

The 1.05 in rookie drafts can be the tipping point where the drop-off in talent could be suggested. This is a weaker quarterback class. The running back situation could be almost anywhere, with better gems being found in later rounds. And the tight end position has a select few good ones, while the rest are avoidable.

Getting the 1.02 for Metcalf and the 1.05 is a trade that I would almost hit accept on, but I would try to ask for more on top of the 1.02 if I’m shipping off Pittsburgh’s newest weapon and the 1.05. I would try to get an additional second-round draft pick or an early third at least.

Josh Allen and the 1.12 vs. Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr., and the 3.01

Sleeper Trade Offer

KeepTradeCut Calculator: Josh Allen & 1.12 (19,831) | Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr., & 3.01 (14,967)

Similar to the first trade that we reviewed, this is a superflex, 12-team dynasty league. The poster did note that they would be the one receiving Josh Allen and the 1.12, but that they also finished dead last in their league. How should one approach this offer?

The poster currently holds Marvin Harrison Jr., who is a very valuable young piece moving forward. Depending on what they have done in previous seasons, they may also hold the 1.01 in the draft. That already is a win for rebuilding. Now, if they have moved 1.01 already, that would change things if a better pick by the Josh Allen side was involved. The 1.12 pick doesn’t make me move Marvin Harrison Jr. alone if it were a one-for-one deal. I would WANT more or an earlier first-round pick.

If this trade were broken down by positions, none of it would make sense. Josh Allen is light-years ahead of Kyler Murray, and no one would make that offer, even with the 3.01 being attached to the Murray side. The Allen owner would need more on their side. Adding a mid-second-round pick instead of the 3.01 still wouldn’t make it look balanced.

Overall, I assume the picture is clear and that this trade overall doesn’t make sense to me. I would hit decline, and I would hit it pretty quickly. I would stick with Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr., and my 3.01 draft pick.

Puka Nacua and 1.04 vs. Malik Nabers

KeepTradeCut Calculator: Puka Nacua & 1.04 (13,577) | Malik Nabers (10,051)

Here we are with an offer in a 1QB 12-team dynasty league, and it is a fun one! We have two of the most arguably dangerous wide receivers in the NFL involved. Both have also had some injury issues that seem to flare up throughout the season (small sample size for Nabers. I know, I know).

Let’s start with Malik Nabers’ side. The New York Giants have signed both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, leading up to the NFL Draft. There have been talks that they could still take a rookie quarterback this draft (which makes signing two quarterbacks insane). However, they haven’t added any other offensive weapons just yet, and that makes Malik Nabers very valuable.

Nabers averaged 7.2 receptions and 11 yards per catch in his rookie season while finishing with seven receiving touchdowns in 15 games. He also averaged 11.3 targets per game. That shouldn’t drop in his sophomore season, it should only go up.

For the Puka Nacua side, he lost his teammate Cooper Kupp as he left in free agency for the Seattle Seahawks. However, the Los Angeles Rams signed Davante Adams after the New York Jets released him. While losing one aging teammate, he gained another. Nacua will be relied on heavily once again by Matthew Stafford and this offense. He averaged 7.1 receptions, 9.6 targets, and 12.5 yards per reception in 11 games last season. What is shocking is that he only found the endzone four total times (three receiving and one rushing touchdown).

Both receivers are similar in what they can do in their team’s offense, but also in how dangerous they are and will be. Adding in the 1.04 pick to the Nacua side makes this a very doable trade. We mentioned a few top rookies in the first trade review, and if you can add on Travis Hunter or Tetairoa McMillan alongside Puka Nacua, then I would hit accept on this trade.

The Rams’ offense will be more dangerous in the next couple of seasons, and Nacua doesn’t look like he will be declining in the amount of points he can put up week in and week out. With the poster stating that they have a terrible team, they get an additional first-round pick (1.04) and whichever spot they select in the rookie draft. It is hard to give up Nabers at all, but Puka is one that I would bend for.
