We are already in Week 7 in the NFL, and I’m back to help us think through the best ways to save some dough in the DraftKings Sunday slate. Let’s dive into some players at the $5,000 salary or less to target to supplement the stars and try and win some cold hard cash!
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler
New Orleans Saints • QB • #2
We are now at the 3rd consecutive week of Spencer Rattler being a good value on DraftKings. He most likely will continue to be all season. However, this week he gets a solid matchup in a mediocre Bears defense, and he will have his entire offense truly healthy for the first time all season. Rattler still has only thrown 1 interception on the season, and all it takes is a 2-3 touchdown game for Rattler to give you a big leg up on the field from a salary perspective.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz
Minnesota Vikings • QB • #11
Wentz this season has looked very solid as a starter, and is now coming off the bye with most of his weapons healthy and ready to go (besides Aaron Jones). Frankly, the only reason Wentz is even at 5000 DraftKings dollars is because there was uncertainty coming in if J. J. McCarthy was going to be healthy enough to earn the start this week. Philadelphia’s defense is not the world-beater they were last year, and there is plenty of potential for this game to be pretty high-scoring.
Isiah Pacheco
Isiah Pacheco
Kansas City Chiefs • RB • #10
Isiah Pacheco has been awful this year, there’s no sugar-coating that. Honestly the Chiefs’ running game as a whole has been woeful. However, Pacheco has slowly been getting an increasing workload each week so far, though only marginally. The Raiders defense is not particularly great, and Kansas City finally has Rashee Rice back to bolster the offense. If the offense does reach its final form, Pacheco at least has some TD upside.
Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai
Chicago Bears • RB • #25
Folks I have to be honest, value at RB is non-existent this week. Pacheco is pretty gross even at $5k, and the only other even semi-interesting back to me is Kyle Monangai against the Saints at $4700. He hasn’t done much so far as a rookie, though the Bears did seem to want to get him more involved last week off the bye. Swift is a little banged up, and Monangai feels like the best bet of the RBs under $5k this week to have a solid chance at a rushing TD.
Romeo Doubs
Romeo Doubs
Green Bay Packers • WR • #87
Doubs has been Jordan Love’s favorite target once again this season, though it has so far only resulted in one big fantasy week on DraftKings. Even so, the Cardinals will mostly likely be without Kyler Murray again this week, and the Packers are pretty heavy favorites in this game. The Cardinals defense is a top half defense, and I don’t think the Packers will be able to just smash the Josh Jacobs button over and over to win this game. I like Doubs’ target floor in this game.
Rashid Shaheed
Rashid Shaheed
New Orleans Saints • WR • #22
The Shaheed play didn’t work out last week, but there were some missed opportunities that could have resulted in it working out. I still don’t fear the Bears defense, and I think Shaheed is the type of receiver that you should always be mixing into your lineups, because he can very easily give you 20-25 if the big plays hit that particular week.
Jerry Jeudy
Jerry Jeudy
Cleveland Browns • WR • #3
Yes, the weather in this game is probably going to be gross. However, I don’t think that affects the Browns all that much, as Dillon Gabriel basically never throws deep or even targets deep. Jeudy had 13 targets last week, and even if it’s a bad day for passing, with David Njoku out, the only players Gabriel is going to target is Jerry Jeudy and Harold Fannin Jr. It’s gross, but I like the amount of work that Jeudy projects for in this game.
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey
Washington Commanders • WR • #11
There is basically no one left to catch passes for the Washington Commanders. McLaurin is already ruled out, and Deebo Samuel is truly questionable with the heel problem. While Zach Ertz will be a great play at TE, he’s also going to be pretty chalky, and value plays that aren’t chalk are the better paths to win lots of money in how today’s DFS landscape plays out usually.
With that being said, Luke McCaffrey is just scoring TDs this season. He has 3 TDs on 8 receptions, and Kliff Kingsbury seems to trust him in the red zone as being a solid target. If Deebo misses, Luke will see the field often, and I want pieces in what projects to be a shootout between Washington and the Cowboys.
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor
New York Jets • TE • #85
Similarly to Washington, there are no receivers left for the New York Jets with Garrett Wilson almost certainly out. Normally, that means to just fade the Jets entirely as an offense. However, they face the Panthers, and that fact is overriding my ability to continue to ignore all Jets.
Mason Taylor is the only pass-catcher left healthy with even a sliver of excitement or juice to him. There’s a decent chance that he is the leading target-earner in this game, and against a bad Panthers defense, I like the floor and ceiling combo that Taylor offers at $3400.
T. J. Hockenson
T. J. Hockenson
Minnesota Vikings • TE • #87
I don’t remember the last time Hockenson was this cheap while being healthy. Now, he has been pretty mediocre, especially when he was in the high $4k range to start the season. However, he is only $3600, and he has Carson Wentz under center, who is far more likely and interested in dumping the ball down to Hock as opposed to the more spry, athletic McCarthy.
From Weeks 3-5, Hockenson averaged 11.2 DraftKings points, even with Jordan Addison back in the fray. I like the combination of solid floor mixed with a still viable ceiling if Hockenson commands any kind of decent target share against an Eagles team that will certainly push and possibly beat the Vikings.
