Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo addressed reporters after Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the Buccaneers, taking accountability for his late-game miss. Koo had a chance to tie the game with a 44-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, but the attempt sailed wide, sealing Atlanta’s divisional defeat.
“I’ve got to make that kick,” Koo said. “My teammates put me in position, and I didn’t finish the job. That’s on me. I’ll take this week to get back to work and make sure I’m better moving forward.”
Koo has been one of the league’s more consistent kickers throughout his career, converting clutch kicks for Atlanta in recent seasons. Still, the miss comes at a tough time, with the Falcons slipping in the standings after a close divisional matchup. Reports indicate the team could work out additional kickers this week, though no official roster moves have been announced.
For now, Koo remains confident that he can bounce back. “It’s about learning from it and responding the right way,” he added. “I’ve done it before, and I’ll do it again.”
The Falcons will look to regroup ahead of Week 2, with questions lingering around whether Koo faces real competition or if this was simply a momentary setback for one of the NFL’s most reliable legs.
